RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset is home to the Fleet Air Arm's Sea Harrier aircraft and helicopters
that deploy aboard the Royal Navy's three aircraft carriers.
There is also a Fleet Air Arm Museum with a collection of about 60 different historic aircraft and the RN
Historic flight are based here which include the following aircraft:
Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton will be celebrating its 70th Anniversary at their annual Air Day on Saturday 10 July 2010 to an expected audience of over 35,000 people. It was commissioned as HMS Heron on 18 June 1940 as a base for naval fighter aircraft. Since then it has grown to become a multi-role air station and has become the base for the Commando Helicopter Force (CHF) and Lynx Helicopter Force (LHF) as well as home to the Royal Navy Historic Flight. It is one of the UK’s busiest military airfields operating over 100 aircraft on 1,400 acres of airfield sites.
This significant milestone will be marked within Air Day’s extensive flying and static displays. Types such as the illustrious Fairey Swordfish torpedo bomber - famed for its attack on the German battleship Bismarck, the potent, Korean War-era Hawker Sea Fury and the world’s only flying example of a Hawker Sea Hawk will take to the skies along with their modern counterparts, such as the Harrier, evoking nostalgic memories of 70 years of naval aviation at RNAS Yeovilton.
The extensive flying display will feature many historic and modern aircraft types to celebrate RNAS Yeovilton’s 70th Anniversary. Yeovilton based Commando Sea King and Lynx helicopters and other Maritime Squadrons will demonstrate their capabilities in the infamous Commando Assault Demonstration with plenty of pyrotechnics! The RAF and Army as well as foreign military participants will also provide fast jet displays, static aircraft, aerobatic display teams and historic flypasts.

Enthusiasts have the chance to drive onto the airfield and use one of the private enclosures situated on the Flight Line to view aircraft arrivals and display practices on the 9th July.
1st Entry time 1300 – 1400
2nd Entry time 1700 – 1730
Enthusiasts must remain in the enclosure till early evening, when arrivals and display practices have been completed, for safety reasons. We envisage that this will be between 1830 and 1900 but ask that you are accommodating should times overrun. Air Day personnel will then direct you to the static aircraft areas (not including the Commando Helicopter line), which will be open until 2030. Toilet and refreshment facilities are available.
Joint Photocall and Air Day packages are also available at a discounted rate if booked in advance. Please see official Yeovilton website for prices.
