Thundersprint 2007 - Spitfire Around the Town Centre
Spitfire fans will have the chance to see this magnificent aircraft display in a unique setting right on the edge of Northwich, Cheshire, on Sunday May 13.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire will perform at Thundersprint 2007 - an incredible mix of classic motorcycle racing, street entertainment and fine food which takes over this pretty market town during the second weekend in May.
The Thundersprint festival has completely free admission, and free parking, and provides a packed day’s entertainment for the whole family. Turn one corner and there’s a 1960s Grand Prix star munching on a home made wild boar pie - walk around the next and find thoroughbred classic race bikes mingling with Morris Dancers and Jazz bands: there’s nowhere like the Thundersprint!
Star attractions on two-wheels this year are British Superbike Champion Ryuichi Kiyonari, with his 200bhp works Honda, and six times World Champion Jim Redman.
As the tension builds for the start of four hours of non-stop racing, the BBMF Spitfire roars across the sky in salute and the thunder of the mighty Merlin engine echoes from Marks and Spencer’s store wall! Truly, an unmissable experience for any fan of classic aircraft - and one which is absolutely unique to the Thundersprint.
Spectator entry to the Thundersprint is free, as is parking, but arriving early is recommended because Northwich gets very busy. The Thundersprint is very family friendly and welcomes well-behaved pets - and children. Facilties for the disabled are excellent with free parking right in the centre of the show.

Top US National Demonstration Team "The Thunderbirds" To Visit Ireland
The Salthill Air Show in Galway have pulled of one of the biggest coups in Aviation by announcing that the No 1 display team in the United States "The Thunderbirds" will take part in the 2007 Air Show which takes place over the weekend of the 24th of June.
The "Thunderbirds" have never been to Ireland and Salthill will be their first display in a tour that will take the team to seven other countries in Europe. When the team last appeared in Europe in 1996 3.5 million people turned out to see them and they had over 2 million at a show in Coney Island New York in 1998.
When the team are here they hope to carry out some community visits. The advance team were in Salthill last weekend to survey the display area off the promenade and said they had never seen a finer or more beautiful location for an Air Show than Salthill, with beautiful Galway Bay and the Burren Mountains in the background.
The Salthill Air Show is Irelands only FREE Air Show, now in its 15th year having started with very small beginnings with just one fishing boat and the Coastguard helicopter from Shannon. Since then it has become the biggest Show in the Country and each year attracts thousands of visitors to Salthill and Galway. The visit of the "Thunderbirds" will be the Aviation event of the year in Ireland.
The Team will be arriving in Shannon and will spend a few days in Ireland before departing for Poland on the next stage of their European tour that will also see them visit France, Italy, Rumania, Bulgaria, Turkey and the UK

Duxford to Launch Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's 50th Anniversary Season in Style
The official public launch of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s (BBMF) 50th anniversary season is to take place exclusively at the Imperial War Museum Duxford on Saturday 5th May.
In association with Breitling and supported by Classic FM, this unique event looks set to provide an action-packed day for all the family. Taking place at historic Duxford, Europe’s premier aviation complex and a former Battle of Britain fighter station, the BBMF Day will be the first opportunity to see all the aircraft of the Flight on the ground at close quarters as well as in the air. The legendary Lancaster and two of the iconic Spitfires will be resplendent in their new livery schemes, chosen to commemorate RAF squadrons Nos 100 and 550 as well as famous flying aces, including Gerald ‘Stapme’ Stapleton, one of the most successful RAF Battle of Britain pilots. Stapme himself will be a guest of honour on the day.
Visitors will be able to meet the people of the Flight - the pilots who fly the aircraft, the aircrew who support them and the ground crew who keep the aircraft maintained and serviced. They will also be able to learn more about the illustrious history of the Flight and the role it plays in today’s RAF, as well as be enthralled by nearly two hours of magnificent flying.
The four original fighters of the BBMF will be reunited in a stunning display prior to the oldest airworthy Spitfire displaying with the latest aircraft in the RAF stable, a Tyhoon, in a salute to the past and a celebration of the modern RAF. In addition, the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team will take to the air to perform a spectacular jump from the BBMF Dakota and the Central Band of the RAF will provide rousing musical accompaniment throughout the day.
In a thrilling finale, the Lancaster will take to the air with all seven fighters flying in formation to give visitors a sight not seen for many, many years and will end with a lone Spitfire performing an emotive display as part of the closing ceremony.
“Duxford is delighted and honoured to host this special day as part of its own tribute to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.” said Tracey Woods, Duxford’s Marketing and PR Manager. “This will be, without a doubt, an amazing day for people of all ages - a unique opportunity to see the aircraft up close, to meet the people of the Flight past and present and to be thrilled by the sight and sound of these magnificent aircraft displaying, it really is a exceptional and special day which is not to be missed.”
Visitors will be able to see the aircraft, including the mighty Lancaster, up close on the ground as part of a flight line walk, chat to the pilots and veterans, get their signatures and witness some magical and awe-inspiring flying. As well as trade stands, the whole of the Museum will be open on the day for visitors to enjoy, with plenty to see including Duxford’s dramatic new £25 million AirSpace exhibition. In AirSpace, visitors can experience the fun, interactive displays on the mezzanine gallery to find out about aircraft, how they fly and how they are made, as well as marvel at the rare and treasured aircraft on display, including Duxford’s own Lancaster, and discover the personal stories and experiences of the people who designed, built and flew aircraft.
Gates open at 10 am. Duxford is located just south of Cambridge at junction 10 of the M11. Ample free parking is available. Admission for this event is FREE for Children under 16, £19.95 for Adults, £16.50 for Concessions. Discounted tickets and group rates are available in advance. This represents the highest ever number of pre-booked cockpits in the entire eight year history of the event!

Kent Air Show, Margate *CANCELLED*
The Kent Air Show, Margate that was to take place at Palm Bay, Margate in Kent on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th June 2007 has now been cancelled.
The Kent Air Show, Margate will not take place this year, but will return in 2008. It comes after the show organisers informed Thanet District Council that they would not be able to take any financial risk over the event. This would mean the Council having to underwrite the Air Show by £300,000 this year. In previous year, the underwriting had been just £30,000.
The decision about whether to hold the Air Show this year had to be taken now, as the RAF were due to finalise their flying schedule in the next few days and aircraft had already been provisionally allocated to Margate.
Cllr. Roger Latchford, Cabinet Member for Commercial Services, said: “Over the last couple of months, we have been working exceptionally hard on the Air Show and trying to ensure that it happens in 2007. Unfortunately the sad fact is that the underwriting required for the event this year would be ten times the amount of previous years and we can’t take that risk with taxpayers’ money. The Council can provide some underwriting, but we need a commercial operator to take the remainder of the risk. That hasn’t proved possible for this year, as our event organisers no longer have the resources to provide that commitment, but we are already working towards putting the Kent Air Show Margate on in 2008 and are talking to other operators.”

Margate’s Big Event will take place on the clifftops at Palm Bay over Father’s Day weekend, with non stop live entertainment planned on the ground between 10am and 10pm on Saturday 16 June and 10.30am and 6pm on Sunday 17 June. On the ground, arena acts will range from Jason Smyth, the only quad bike stunt rider in the UK, to the Solent Eagles Motorcycle Display Team and from John Evans, international strong man, and Chinese Acrobats, to Cyril the Squirrel and his racing terriers and a vulture and eagle show by Eagle Heights.
Both days will have live music, with appearances by Hulaballo, Rubber Biscuit, Ronnie Scott Rejects, Pulse and Umbrella Men. Saturday’s entertainment will finish with an Abba tribute concert, followed by a spectacular fireworks finale.
Other acts entertaining the crowds over the two days include trapeze artists, clowns, puppeteers, stilt walkers, acrobats, magicians and even a pair of resident robots, many of which are appearing in Thanet for the first time.

1. Spirit of Adventure represents a departure from the conventional ‘air-show’ style event, providing the general public with an opportunity to better understand the working routine and lifestyle of the Service.
2. The approach will be to engage the public in a series of interactive, entertaining and stimulating activities, to provide a spectacular, story-led, entertainment experience for the general public and, in particular, young people.
3. Typhoon, Tornado, Merlin, C130 and Spitfire will perform fly-pasts and role demonstrations. The Red Arrows will perform a flypast to close the event on the second day. There will be a number of ground static displays of RAF equipment and materiel.
4. An interactive movie with an overarching RAF (Spirit of Adventure) theme will be shown on giant screens. Live music, extreme sports demonstrations and activities provide complementary entertainment.
5. The key themes of adventure, lifestyle, sport and technology will be conveyed largely through direct engagement between RAF Servicemen and women and the public on the ground. The event is designed to appeal to a modern generation of young people and families and promote a positive ‘can do’ spirit.
Spirit of Adventure is an event like no other. Its primary aim is to promote the image, reputation and profile of the Royal Air Force through an exciting and interactive feature film combined with live action role demonstrations performed by the stars of the show - The RAF. It is like being in the world's greatest open air theatre! This event is a state-of- the-art techonlogy and human capability combined...
Unlike any other air show you will see this summer, Spirit of Adventure is story led and will give the public an engaging and immersive view of what the modern Royal Air Force is capable of. This is a show that will appeal to the traditional audience, as well as a whole new youth generation and family audience who are used to Hollywood blockbusters, visiting Univeral Studios and impressive special effects! The purpose of the show is to entertain, educate and inform the wider public.
The ‘Spirit of Adventure’ event is being taken forward jointly by RAF Defence PR and commercial partner, Jervis Entertainment Media (who has secured the financial underwriters and promoter of the show - AAA Events). Terry Jervis the creator and producer of the event has strong media background in film and television and has produced many live events for TV around the world.
The key themes of adventure, lifestyle, sport and technology will be conveyed through aircraft, people from commercial backgrounds and direct engagement between RAF Servicemen and women and the public on the ground. In addition to RAF ground displays, aircraft fly-pasts, role demonstrations and static exhibits, the event will feature extreme sports, theme park activities, competitions and many other attractions.
We sincerely hope that you join us in the adventure of a life time and come and see what the RAF can really do as a force for good in the world.
Two, 2-day Spirit of Adventure events are planned for 2007, one in the South of England (26th and 27th May: Abingdon Airfield/Dalton Barracks) and one in Southern Scotland (25th and 26th August: Balado Park Kinross) running from 1000 until 1800 on both days. The events are expected to attract upwards of 50,000 members of the public on each of the two days and have attracted a great deal of interest from external contributors, the press and the broadcast media.
------------------------
The Battle for Britain has begun as a new superpower attempts to take over the UK... and only the Royal Air Force stands between freedom and domination by enemy forces.
That's the scenario greeting visitors to the RAF's new 'Spirit of Adventure' live interactive show coming to Oxfordshire early this summer.
Members of the public who witness the 'events' unfolding will hold the power to influence the RAF's response to the threats as they approach our shores.
The media were given a glimpse of the future as some of the stars of the forthcoming show arrived at Horse Guards Parade in London on Tuesday 3 April 2007 for the launch of the event.
Group Captain Andy Turner, head of RAF Public Relations, said: "This is not an airshow but a demonstration of what the RAF does for the nation and world peace, built around a fictitious story of an attack on our sovereignty.
"It's new, exciting and interactive - tailor made for all the family to get involved with over the course of a day.
"The RAF is widely known about but not well understood. This new concept will engage and inform in a way that is a world first.
"Spirit is just the start of a broader engagement with the public that now includes marketing ourselves through better branding, a merchandising initiative and full use of the internet.
"We are using technology and innovation and tying in with sport and leisure industry so more and more people know, understand and support our core business of protecting the UK and her interests.
"2007 is an important year for the RAF in many key areas, but in particular, Typhoon is due to start contributing to protecting the air space over the nation – which is a central theme of 'Spirit of Adventure'."
Terry Jervis, the Managing Director of the company spearheading the new initiative, Jervis Entertainment Media Ltd, said:
"The story is about the RAF achieving the impossible, which they do every day in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. But the RAF is about more than that. It is about all of us working together under the UK flag and defending the nation. We shall be telling that story."
'Spirit of Adventure' is an event like no other and aims to promote the image, reputation and profile of the Royal Air Force through an exciting and interactive feature film, combined with live action role demonstrations performed by the stars of the show - The RAF.
Using state-of-the-art technology linked to human capability, the event will feel like being in the world's greatest open air theatre!
The key themes of adventure, lifestyle, sport and technology will be conveyed through aircraft, people from commercial backgrounds, and direct engagement between RAF Servicemen and women and the public on the ground.
In addition to RAF ground displays, aircraft fly-pasts, role demonstrations and static exhibits, the event will feature extreme sports, theme park activities, competitions and many other attractions.
Two events are planned for 2007, the first two-day 'Spirit of Adventure' event will take place on 26 and 27 May 2007 at Abingdon Airfield (Dalton Barracks), near Abingdon in Oxfordshire, and the second on 25 and 26 August 2007 at Balado Park, Kinross, southern Scotland. Both events will start at 1000 hrs and run until 1800 hrs each day.
The events are expected to attract upwards of 50,000 members of the public on each of the two days, and have attracted a great deal of interest from external contributors, the press and the broadcast media.

RAF Spirit of Adventure Cancellations
The RAF Spirit of Adventure event at Dalton Barracks, Abingdon, Oxfordshire took place on Saturday 26th May 2007 but was cancelled on Sunday 27th May 2007 due to the official reason given below:
'On Sunday the British weather dealt a cruel blow with the conditions proving too inclement for the show to go ahead. Overnight very low cloud and heavy rain came into the area and the Met Office advised that this would only get worse throughout the day. If we chose to go ahead with the event and ignore the weather, the planes would have flown but the cloud would have prevented the audience from seeing the displays. After agonising deliberation the organisers concluded that the only sensible decision was to cancel the event on the Sunday.
All ticket holders for the Sunday will be entitled to a refund of the ticket face value by contacting the point of purchase. Ticket holders needing further clarification can call 07768 697069 (020 8789 6111 after Tuesday 29th May)'
The RAF Spirit of Adventure event at Kinross in Scotland on 25th-26th August 2007 has been cancelled. No official reason has been given.
It is believed that attendance figures were significantly lower than expected on Saturday 26th May 2007.

Festival of History
The Festival of History will take place at Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire on the 11-12th August 2007.
Visitors can meet the men of the Royal Flying Corps and witness the drama of a remarkable recreated scene from the Great War as British pilots take to the skies in front of your very eyes and perform perilous manoeuvres. New for 2007 – experience the sights and sounds of life in the trenches and hear tales of the triumphs and tragedies of the men who worked there, as you explore our re-created World War I trench.
The UK’s biggest historical event promises even more drama and excitement than ever before as this year, for the first time ever, no less than nine screaming World War I Fighter planes take to the skies and perform daredevil displays in our most dramatic event yet!
Along with past favourites such as the return of the Knights’ Tournament; Roman horse racing; battle spectaculars; living history encampments; action-packed children’s area; music, dance and a celebrity lecture programme – with talks by Alison Weir and Earl Spencer, we have a number of new shows to entertain you in 2007.
New for 2007:
Fly Boys of WW1: This year’s enhanced show includes nine replica WWI fighter planes: SE5A; Junker CL1’s; Sopwith Triplane; Nieuport 17; Fokker DR1
WWI Trench Experience: Consisting of almost 80ft of trenches with 7ft high walls, feel for yourself what is was like for the men who lived this claustrophobic existence.
Battle for Kelmarsh: Twice a day the peaceful 18th-century street comes under siege by a group of smugglers. Canons will fire, horses will gallop and duels shall be fought! Wander through the village to meet craftsmen and hear stories, but watch out for the smugglers!
Build a Castle! Visit the children's area to join in as we attempt to build a medieval castle – on a huge scale! Lots of hands-on activities and entertainment for children.
Lecture Debate on the Monarchy: Which monarch will win the title of greatest monarch in the history debate?
Blackadder Chill-out Tent: Sit back and relax whilst watching episodes of one the BBC’s most popular comedy series
Watch in awe as no fewer than nine fighter planes takes to the skies in front of your very eyes in this, the most dramatic show you’ll ever see at the Festival of History.
Feel the tension build as fighter pilots and their planes await the call to action and Machine Gunners scan the sky. British Tommys drill and train in preparation of an allied offensive. Bombs drop! Onlookers gasp! Fighter planes take to the skies in front of your very eyes and scream overhead.
A perilous dog fight takes place and we nervously await the return, or otherwise, of the young pilots of the Flying Corps…
This thrilling display by members of the Great War Display Team features German and British planes taking off from the festival field to perform awesome feats of precision flying.
The team comprises:
• 4 x SE5A’s
• 2 x Junker CL1’s
• 1 x Sopwith Triplane
• 1 x Nieuport 17
• 1 x Fokker DR1
The flying display will take place twice per day.

London City Airport Fun Day
The London City Airport Fun Day will take place at London City Airport, Royal Docks, E16 2PB on Saturday 7 July 2007, 2pm – 6:30pm.
The Air Show at London City Airport's annual Fun Day promises to be a spectacular event this year. Residents of Newham and further afield need only look above from 3.30pm on 7 July to see a sensational display of aircraft, new and old, fill the skies.
Amongst the striking extravaganza on the day will be an aerobatic display from the Grace Spitfire ML407, flown by the UK's only female Spitfire pilot. The Team Guinot Wing Walking Display Team combine the latest safety technology with the courage and daring of early 20s aviators, entertaining crowds with a taste of their barnstorming magic, followed by the Skytrack Parachute Freefall Team – the only all-girl team in the UK. The YAK9 and Mustang P51D "Janie" represent stunning aircraft from the WW2 era whilst the Pitts Special will perform an amazing array of loops and barrels. The Dennis Kenyon Aerobatic Helicopter Display is the most amazing helicopter display ever seen, flying low level with amazing accuracy. The world's premiere aerobatic aircraft, the CAP 232, will be on display and the SWIFT Aerobatic Glider, which is towed into the air with a specialised tow plane, provides an opportunity for the glider team to defy convention. The glider follows the tug through aileron rolls, tight turns, wingovers and zoom climbs, all performed at low level in front of the crowd.
The Air Show attracts over 10,000 visitors and forms a major part of the airport's Fun Day that is now in its eleventh year. Entrance is free to all visitors and funds raised from attractions are donated to the airport's chosen charity, Richard House, the first children's hospice in London.
