The Northern Ireland International Air Show is to be held at West Bay, Portrush, N.I. from Saturday 3rd - Sunday 4th September 2006.

Definite dates are 2nd and 3rd September 2006 with a Media-Preview on Friday 1st between 12.00 noon and 14.00 hrs.

Each show day is totally free and that goes for all the air, ground and arena attractions. Most car parking is also free!

Full details of air attractions when we are advised of our MOD allocations from the Participation Committee at the end of Feb.

However the event is the official Northern Ireland tribute to the 10,000 Irish volunteers, from both the North and the South, who gave their lives at the Battle of the Somme. There will be a 2,000,000 poppy-petal drop from a classic DC3 plus a parade of around 80 standard bearers from all over Ireland and from England. Bands etc., veterans and relatives of those who died at the Somme. Followed by a flypast of war birds, classic and veteran aircraft etc.

What is guaranteed is the largest display ever, in living memory, in Northern Ireland.

More details to added in March.

The flying display will be a mixture of older and more modern aircraft contrasting the fragility of WW1 biplanes with the war-winning power of the Mustang, Spitfire and Hurricane. With approximately three hours of varied flying the Sywell Airshow 2006 will offer something for everyone! As well as the much welcomed return of P-51D 'Susy', based at Sywell for so many years, we hope to have a multiple Chipmunk flypast to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the first flight of the de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk, a trainer aircraft used to train several generations of RAF pilots and now a popular aircraft with civilian owners.

In addition to the flying display there will be aircraft on static display along with military and vintage vehicles. Trade stands will include car dealerships, model makers, garden furniture, memorabilia, fine art and books. The spectacular Flight Thanet Air Show which hit the South East in 2005, providing fun and excitement for the whole family, has officially been renamed The Kent Air Show, Margate.

The title has been changed to represent the expected growth of the event which promises to be one of the most spectacular aviation events on the air show calendar. After the success of the 2005 event, the organisers of the Kent Air Show are working tirelessly to ensure the event is even bigger and better in 2006. Endless work behind the scenes on the air display and ground activities will ensure the event is a dynamic and fun-filled experience for the whole family.

The name change encompasses the wider area of Kent, to recognise the impact the event has on the region as a whole. It is hoped that this change will engage the wider community to become involved and give the region and its businesses an event to be proud of and invest in.

The Air Show combines a spectacular air display incorporating the latest fast jets, fighters, bombers, vintage World War II aircraft, parachute displays and aerobatic aircraft with a host of interactive ground activities for the whole family.

Cllr. Latchford of Thanet Council said: “The change of the event name represents the importance of the event to the region and its expected growth. This magnificent event represents the perfect opportunity for the businesses of the region to invest in and gain association with one of the major and most important events for Kent. ”

Thundersprint 2006

Thundersprint 2006
Sunday May 7 - Northwich Town Centre
Free to Enter and Free to Park

Spitfire Around Northwich Town Centre

Spitfire fans will have the chance to see this magnificent aircraft display in a unique setting right on the edge of Northwich, Cheshire, on Sunday May 7.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire will perform at Thundersprint 2006 - an incredible mix of classic motorcycle racing, street entertainment and fine food which takes over this pretty market town during the second weekend in May.

The Thundersprint festival is free to enter, and free to park, and provides a packed day’s entertainment for the whole family. Turn one corner and there’s a 1960s Grand Prix star munching on a home made wild boar pie. Walk round the next and find thoroughbred classic race bikes mingling with Morris Dancers and Jazz bands: there’s no-where like the Thundersprint!

As the tension builds for the start of four hours of non-stop racing, the BBMF Spitfire roars across the sky in salute and the thunder of the mighty Merlin engine echoes from Marks and Spencer’s store wall! Truly, an unmissable experience for any fan of classic aircraft - and one which is absolutely unique to the Thundersprint.

Spectator entry to the Thundersprint is free, as is parking, but arriving early is recommended because Northwich gets very busy.

Press Release below:

The 2006 Air Show season is fast approaching and this will be the first major release regarding plans for" Shoreham's RAFA Battle of Britain Airshow". We have decided to keep this years entry prices as those in 2005 and at the same time increase our spend so that we will be able to welcome new displays to Shoreham.

The new dates are due to the fact that the planned dates were over committed with other events. This has given us a real benefit this year in the fact that we will be the only Air Show on in the UK the original Battle of Britain weekend – hence we plan to make it that bit different.

Some advanced publicity :-

1. A Spitfire and Hurricane scramble with eight aircraft plus ground support role play and pyrotechnics.
2. Major participation from the RAF to include the Typhoon (full display both days), Harrier, Tucano, Hawk, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Spitfire, Hurricane, Lancaster and Dakota), two Chinook HC Mk 11s and the RAF Merlin Helicopter display team.
3. Sea Fury and Sea Hawk from Royal Navy Historic Flight and if ready after refurbishment a welcome return of The Swordfish and the first visit of the new Navy Merlin Helicopter doing its full display.
4. Parachute Regiment "Red Devils" – who will also be supporting a ground attack scenario made up from members of the Parachute Regiments Recruiting Team.
5. Pyrotechnics and airfield attack by two Messerschmitt aircraft.
6. Yakovlevs display team with their 4 Yaks.
7. Sally B, Mustang, Kittyhawk, PYB Catalina, Vampire, Harvard Fox Glider.
8. Aerobatics from Denny Dobson,The Utterly Butterlys (Four Ship Display) and Will Curtis and his Honda Display.
9. Welcome return of Haurel and Lardy, Dads Army and Celebrities.

As this release goes to press discussions are still under way with other display pilots – watch this space! One area of criticism (Yes! we do listen) has been the size of our static display – we therefore are trying to make big improvements this year – due to no others displays most aircraft will be based at Shoreham and we are looking at inviting static aircraft to join us.

The ground display area has been completely revamped and events by all services will be taking place during the day. This will include the RAF Dog display team and the Red Arrows own simulator ( both another first for Shoreham) Add to this the popular fun fair, craft tent, trade stalls, motor vehicles, children's circus and military exhibitions we have tried to enlarge the "Family Day" feel to the show which makes Shoreham just that bit different.

Comments from the media last year were very impressive resulting in Shoreham now being considered as on of the UKs top shows. (We cannot do it without you – so a big thank-you!!) and this year it has resulted in more sponsors wanting to join the ranks. With the Airport under new owners from April it is going to be a great challenge. "It is nice to know we have their full support" added John Haffenden Shoreham Airports Manager.

"The event cannot be run without the dedicated support of the Committee who put a lot of effort into planning it as well as the RAF Cadet Force" said Don Bean MBE Airshow Organiser. Sponsors this year include Talk Sport Radio, Spitfire Ales, Bunn Leisure, Southern Trains, The Argus, Sussex Life, Gamble Jarvis, Shell Aviation and Shoreham Airport.

"Many local people help at the show who in no way are connected with the RAF – they support the local RAFA Shoreham-by-Sea Branch at this event in such a way that record funds are raised each year for the Royal Air Forces Association and that is why this year we have tried to make the 2006 show just that bit different to say a big thank-you to all our supporters over the years". Said John Periam the shows Press Officer. Watch this space and look at the shows dedicated web site www.shorehamairshow.com for all the latest news and information.

In addition Avro Vulcan XM594 is expected do perform system demonstrations throughout the weekend; Volunteers from the museum will endeavour to open a number of aircraft for public visits throughout the weekend; Newark Museum will be providing an interactive costumed World War 2 question and answer session for children and adults; and the Waddington Amateur Radio Society will be broadcasting from the site.

Special Notices
It should be noted by visitors that as some of the cockpits travel many miles to be here for the weekend, typically some will start to leave the site from 2pm on the Sunday. We therefore recommend early viewing to avoid disappointment.

On both days visitors and participants will be eligible to a 5% discount on ALL books and plastic model kits purchased in the Museum Shop.

Normal museum admission rates apply. Adults £6.00, Over 60s £5.50, Children £3.75 and Family ticket [2 adults & 2 children] £17.50. Appointments are preferred for Group [15 plus people] visits. Gates open for the public at 1000 hours both days.

Cockpit owners who have not yet registered for this year's event are reminded that there is no fee for you to pay when you participate at Cockpit-Fest, as display pitches are free to exhibitors. So please contact the museum soon, if you plan to display your cockpit / interior exhibit, at the 2006 Cockpit-Fest.

Cockpit-Fest is sponsored and supported by FLYPAST the UK's top selling aviation monthly magazine.
