Thundersprint 2009
Thundersprint 2009 - Spitfire Around the Town Centre
Sunday May 10 - Northwich, Cheshire, Town Centre
Spitfire fans will have the chance to see this magnificent aircraft display in a unique setting right on the edge of Northwich, Cheshire, on Sunday May 10.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire will perform at Thundersprint 2009 - an incredible mix of classic motorcycle racing, street entertainment and fine food which takes over this pretty market town during the second weekend in May.
The Thundersprint festival has completely free admission, and free parking, and provides a packed day's entertainment for the whole family. Turn one corner and there's a 1960s Grand Prix star munching on a home made wild boar pie - walk around the next and find thoroughbred classic race bikes mingling with Morris Dancers and Jazz bands: there's nowhere like the Thundersprint!
Star attractions on two-wheels this year are double World Champion and MotoGP star James Toseland and six times World Champion Jim Redman.
As the tension builds for the start of four hours of non-stop racing, the BBMF Spitfire roars across the sky in salute and the thunder of the mighty Merlin engine echoes from Marks and Spencer's store wall! Truly, an unmissable experience for any fan of classic aircraft - and one which is absolutely unique to the Thundersprint.
Spectator entry to the Thundersprint is free, as is parking, but arriving early is recommended because Northwich gets very busy. The Thundersprint is very family friendly and welcomes well-behaved pets - and children. Facilties for the disabled are excellent with free parking right in the centre of the show.
For more information visit www.thundersprint.com or 'phone 01928 740 498.
James May at the Thundersprint
Thundersprint 2009
Northwich Town Centre May 9/10
Free Admission and Free Parking
The Thundersprint attracts many stars and celebrities but there are none more popular than the relaxed and charming James May, co-presenter of the BBC's "Top Gear" programme. Although an expert on cars, and renowned for his hilariously laconic assessments of all that's new in the world of four wheels, James is a dedicated bike fan and rates the Thundersprint as one of his favourite events of the year.
James will return to Northwich on May 10 with his mighty 1964, 87cc Honda which produces a breathtaking 6.5 bhp. James will line up with six times World Champion Jim Redman and Double World Champion, James Toseland.
James (May, rather than Toseland) said: 'When I crest Castle Hill in Northwich in my borrowed van, and see the town spread out below me like Camelot, I will know that my faithful charger, the 87cc Honda C200, has arrived at its spiritual home."
Asked about his racing achievements on the mighty Honda James listed doing 45mph on the A4, changing the oil and finishing a very close next to last in the 2007 Thundersprint.
Truly,"Mad Dog May", as James likes to be known when he is racing, will bring a very special presence to the Thundersprint start line.

Newark Air Museum Event – Cockpit-Fest 2009
13 & 14 June 2009
The Newark Air Museum will be hosting its 10th Cockpit-Fest event on its site on the Winthorpe Showground just north-east of Newark-on-Trent. This two day event that takes place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June, looks set to break all records with 21 visiting cockpits having already booked in to display alongside the museum's own collection of 70 airframes.
One of the unlikely stars looks set to be its own Harvard cockpit section from airframe KF532. This original framework has not been on formal display at the museum for many years and it will now be available for public inspection. This came about in response to various requests made during and after the 2008 Cockpit-Fest event, the staff and volunteers moved the cockpit section out of storage and onto temporary display in Hangar 1 at the end of May.
Regular updates of the participation list continue to be added to the news page of the museum website www.newarkairmuseum.org and nearly half of the visiting cockpits are new to the event! These range from: a Spitfire Mk.V through to a Buccaneer S2.B naval strike fighter; and also includes a Canberra bomber and 3 lightning jet fighters.
A diverse range of visiting exhibits include: a Boeing 737 Simulator Display; Tri-Star Lo11 Simulator Display; Instrument panels / interiors displays; Owls from the Raptor Foundation; Lancaster W4270 display (Sat only); Shackleton Association; Newark Millgate Museum, - A display of WWII Objects; Lincolnshire Aviation Society (Sat Only); Photo Display 1803 Squadron ATC; display panels from the Lincolnshire Integrated Aviation Heritage Partnership; Photo Display of Wartime RAF Binbrook; RAF Supply Drops in WWII Burma; Crusader 80 – British Army of the Rhine, Military Vehicle Display
Just one additional participant confirmation has been added to this year's event listing, which is now up to 22 visiting cockpits.
There could be some additional details confirmed during the week and these will be updated on the museum website at http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/news.php on a daily basis if and when they come through.
As ever the event is being supported by FlyPast Magazine and it looks like being a bumper year.
