Dunsfold Press Release
BROOKLANDS WINGS & WHEELS AT DUNSFOLD
Spectacular charity day features classic cars and aircraft
including displays by the Red Arrows and the
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
Saturday 4 June 2005
The world-famous Red Arrows aerobatic team, the legendary Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and the giant Napier-Railton racing car are just some of the participants scheduled to appear at a spectacular aviation and motoring family day being organised by Brooklands Museum and Dunsfold Park Ltd at Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey on Saturday 4 June.
"Brooklands Wings & Wheels at Dunsfold" is timed to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the 70th anniversary of the first flight of the Hawker Hurricane fighter. It is being organised by Brooklands Museum Trust and Dunsfold Park Ltd, with all profits going to the Brooklands Museum Trust, CHASE and Cranleigh Village Hospital Trust.
The action for the day will start with a fly-in of around 60 vintage and modern aircraft, followed by a series of demonstrations by Brooklands-style racing cars and motorcycles (including several giant aero-engined racers) and spectacular modern vehicles, and a three-hour air display featuring historic and modern aircraft.
The air display is planned to include*:
RAF Red Arrows display team
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Avro Lancaster, Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane)
The Royal Navy Historic Flight - Hawker Sea Fury and Hawker Sea Hawk
RAF Harrier GR7 display
RAF Hawk solo display
Hawker Hurricane
and other display participants to be announced
Included in aircraft flying in for the day are expected to be other examples of the Hawker Hurricane fighter (many of which were built at Brooklands and which were the most successful fighters of the Battle of Britain) and other rare and exotic machines.
In addition to the runway demonstrations by classic and modern cars and motorcycles, the motoring action on the day will include the arrival of the participants in a classic car rally being run from Brooklands to Dunsfold via the south coast, and demonstrations of historic military vehicles. Owners of classic cars are being urged to come to Dunsfold in their historic machines, and there will be a special reserved classic car park for them.
Brooklands Museum Director Allan Winn says: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the public to see and hear these wondrous machines in action, have a great family day out and support the work of these three vital local charities. We are all exceptionally grateful to Dunsfold Park Ltd for making Dunsfold Aerodrome available to us so that this unique event could happen. We hope that many thousands of people from the surrounding area will come and enjoy themselves on the day."
Tickets for Brooklands Wings & Wheels at Dunsfold will go on sale shortly via the special event website www.wingsandwheels.net at the special advance booking price of £17.50 for adults or £40.00 for a family: tickets on the day will cost £20.00 for adults and £45 for a family. Single child tickets (for children aged 5 – 16) will be £5.00 either in advance or on the day, and children under 5 will be admitted free. In recognition of the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII, there will be special arrangements for veterans of that conflict.

===========================================================
Brooklands Museum Trust Ltd operates Brooklands Museum in Weybridge, on the site of the World's first purpose-built motor circuit which operated from 1907 to1939, and of the Brooklands flying ground and aircraft factories where aircraft were built and operated from 1908 to 1988. Brooklands Museum Trust Ltd is an independent private-sector charity.
The Rutland Group and the Royal Bank of Scotland are the owners and operator of Dunsfold Park, the industrial complex on the site of Dunsfold Aerodrome. Dunsfold was a base for Canadian and Dutch B-25 Mitchell bombers during WWII, and for aircraft involved in the Berlin Airlift in 1949. It was subsequently used by Hawker Aircraft and BAE Systems to build combat aircraft including the Hunter, the Harrier and the Hawk until the factory was closed in 2000. Dunsfold is still used as a private aerodrome and has been the home of BBC TV's Top Gear programme for the last two years.
CHASE Hospice Care for Children is dedicated to the support of children who are not expected to reach their 19th birthday. For these children there is, at present, no hope of cure, but they and their families still need care and support over the course of the life ahead of them. CHASE is based at Loseley Park, just outside Guildford.
Cranleigh Village Hospital Trust is raising £2.5.m to build a new hospital on a new site in the heart of the village to serve the local community. This will replace the existing 150 year-old hospital which is the oldest cottage hospital in the country.
